Your developer has recommended PorterWP. Here is what that means.
PorterWP is development software used behind the scenes of a custom WordPress website. It helps your developer connect the site’s content structure and bespoke theme to WordPress in a consistent way.
The short explanation
PorterWP is part of the site’s technical foundation.
Your custom theme controls the design, templates and project decisions. PorterWP reads instructions from that theme and registers the WordPress features it needs.
That can include content types, categories, custom editing blocks, theme assets, filtered listings and other development infrastructure.
It is not the website design
PorterWP is not a page builder, a ready-made theme, web hosting or a replacement for the developer who designed and built your site.
The experience your visitors see comes from WordPress, your content and the custom theme created for the project.
Why a licence is involved
Each production domain using PorterWP requires an active licence.
If a developer has asked you to purchase PorterWP, they have chosen it as part of the site’s build. The licence belongs in the same planning conversation as the custom theme, hosting and other project software.
Before purchasing, agree who will own the account, who will manage activation and renewals, and which production domain the licence is for. Your developer can confirm whether ACF Pro or any other separately licensed software is also part of the build.

Before you purchase
Ask your developer these four questions.

Who should own the PorterWP account? Decide whether it belongs to your organisation or is managed by the developer.

Which production domain is covered? Confirm the final live address before activation.

Who will manage activation and updates? Record this in the project’s maintenance responsibilities.

Are other licences required? A project using the starter’s ACF Blocks v3 scaffold requires ACF Pro 6.6 or newer, purchased separately.
